Its name doesn’t tell you much, sounding more like an economist’s dream, that a visual art collaboration, but the Transoceanic Visual Exchange (TVE) promises to be an exciting cross-border experience of film art. Set to premiere at Bagnall Point, Pelican Village, Barbados, as part of the Barbados Visual Media Festival, TVE Caribbean will present exhibitions and screenings of video art and film from the Caribbean, Africa and Aotearoa.
TVE Caribbean is being mothered by Fresh Milk of Barbados, Video Art Network Lagos of Nigera and New Zealand’s RM, which will feature simultaneous exhibitions, in an attempt to open up discourse, knowledge and visibility, that go beyond and between geo-political borders.
The launch of TVE Caribbean will feature works by: Rebecca Ann Hobbs, Ngahuia Raima and Louisa Afoa of Aotearoa; Versia Harris, Katherine Kennedy, and Nick and Alberta Whittle of Barbados; Lamber Mousseka of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Romel Jean Pierre of Haiti; Nkechi Ebubedike of Nigeria; and Michele Pearson Clarke of Trinidad and Tobago. It will launch at 7pm on October 14, 2015.
Additional screenings will also take place at Fresh Milk, The Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination and the Morningside Gallery, Barbados Community College.
Films being screened include Mangere bridge 246 / Otara at Night by Rebecca Ann Hobbs (October 16, 6pm - Fresh Milk, St. George); Slap by Darcell Apelu, Ududeagu by Akwaeke Emezi and Viernes Santo by Carlo Reyes (October 22, 7pm - Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination); and Riva Mumma by Olivia McGilchrist and Offscreen by David Gumbs (October 29-30, 10am-4pm - Morningside Gallery, Barbados Community College).
